To create for the sheer joy of creating, to create with abandon, to create as part of one’s interiority.
In this day and age, too often what we make are valued only by the amount of money it makes. To create is to make content to feed the appetite of the endless algorithm. That you're always seeking to improve, to hit the invisible level cap. Casual Creation Manifesto is not about to shun anyone for having to work to put food on the table. Work for the sake of survival is work for the sake of survival. I shall not shame anyone who finds joy in their work, and if you thrive in the ashes of capitalism, more power to you.
Casual Creation Manifesto is about relishing in creating small things, as part of daily life, as natural as breathing and eating. It's a sketch before sleep, a doodle before dawn, a skit or two before you leave for work, a drabble as you wait for the bus, a chill jam in the weekend, a no-big-deal attitude. That creating art doesn't have to be an end all be all, to be something serious, to be something you're any good at.
It's about writing about the rain outside your window because it makes you feel, not necessarily because you need a portfolio piece. It's about making a very cool IF because you want to, not because you need another set of achievements to tick. It's about capturing a blurry photograph because who cares if you totally suck at this even after a decade? It's about being self-indulgent in creating something you like even if it's insipid and unoriginal and unpopular and cliched. If it ends up being something, well nice. If it doesn't end up being anything, it's fine. If someone resonates with it, good. If someone doesn't, no problem.
You're not entitled to a big break or recognition or monetary success just because you pour your entire heart into something. And you will not expect such things to come with what you make.
I want to live making art because art is part of me and my life, though it doesn't define who I am. It is merely a figment of me in any given time. I have stopped making things and picked it up again and it doesn't change who I am fundamentally. You are not beholden to anyone to keep pumping new things.
I mainly make games now and it's what prominently shown on this site, but I have made other things in the past and I will make other things in the future, and I will not hold myself down to a single denominator. It just so happens that these newer stuff are already properly collected and easily linked.
I make things.
I have always made things.
I make different things.
Or the same thing over and over again as I like.
I will keep making things.
On my own terms.
At my own pace.
Because I can.
Because I want to.
