Casual Games
I like word and trivia games, and the world has no shortage of it. Ever since Wordle took off, I felt like something new cropped up every week with the same daily structure. That's nice, something to play for everyone! I have said in previous post why I dislike daily logins, but most of these games would have archive of the puzzles available (with or without paid option) so that's fine. No, I'm inclined to stop whenever people around me flock to play one and I start seeing results shared everywhere (in my periphery).
In my heart I'm a competitive person and despite mellowing (significantly if I dare say so) over the years, ugly feelings would rear its head especially when I'm exhausted. It's a trait I don't mind materializing where it matters. After all, it brought me where I am today. But I've also learnt to control it where it isn't required. I'd like to have my games lighthearted.
It's only a race when you make it a race, of course. Logically I could still play without looking at everyone's scores and letting them affect me. I can learn to feel comfortable sharing low scores on bad days. I don't have to stop. Heck, perhaps this is the better way to rein oneself. I still have long way to go, I admit. Most of the time though, trend fades out fast, and I would go back to play the games once everyone has moved onto the next hot stuff.
Ultimately, I tend to enjoy what I enjoy privately. It curbs me from comparing myself to others and putting a stake where it doesn't belong. My circles usually have crazy good scores in these games, which is just normal given where and how we met each other. That makes comparing even more absurd. There is nothing to prove, nothing to satisfy but my own petty brain.
We play to have fun, we play to let loose, we play to let go.
